Melanie Ross

Research Associate, Green Building Technologies

Applied Research and Innovation Services

Expert In: More Show less

Since 2019, Ross has brought her education, wealth of experience and passion for sustainability and innovation in the cutting-edge world of green building technologies to SAIT.

While obtaining her Bachelor of Architectural Studies from the University of Waterloo, Ross found she was fuelled by the desire to build structures that would have a positive impact — focusing on benefiting the built environment instead of just the bottom line.

Her projects have focused on LEED, WELL and other certifications, along with a concentration on energy management, sustainability planning and policy development.

Through her work as research associate for SAIT’s Green Building Technologies — under the umbrella of Applied research and Innovation Services (ARIS) — and ongoing participation as a board member for the both the Smart, Sustainable, Resilient Infrastructure Association and Canada Green Building Council’s Alberta chapter, Ross advocates for a green future, “one building at a time.”

Awards and achievements:

  • Part of the Living Building certification team — if successful, the project will be the fourth home in the world to achieve this status

If I wasn’t doing this I'd be: "teaching or using my art background to write children’s books."
