Level up your convocation celebration

It’s almost convocation! Get ready to mark the occasion from wherever you are.

The day you’ve been waiting for is almost here! Convocation is just around the corner, and it’s going to be one for the books. Though virtual, this spring’s ceremony is going to be a celebration to match the incredible enthusiasm and admiration your family, friends and instructors have for you — the class who moved their studies online, who persevered, who showed up and accomplished something great.

Here are four tips for taking your virtual celebration to the next level.

1. Get those iconic spring campus pics

Grabbing a photo outside Heritage Hall when the trees are in bloom has been a convocation favourite for years — and we’re not about to break tradition. You can go to campus and take photos as long as you follow Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services health and safety guidelines.

Tip: Snap an IG-worthy pic and don’t forget to tag it with #SAIT2021!

2. Get set up with SAIT Alumni’s Celebration Kit

The folks in Alumni and Development are so excited to welcome you to the family they’ve created a special digital kit that will bring your convocation day out of the virtual and into reality — including a special cocktail (or mocktail) recipe from fellow SAIT alum Madeleine MacDonald.

3. Dress for the occasion — whatever that means to you!

Your convocation from SAIT, from this program, in 2021 is only going to happen once. Yes, you might be attending from your living room — but that doesn’t mean you can’t break out the fancy sweats — er, fancy something. Dress in a way you’ll be comfortable looking back on in pictures of the day.

4. Don’t hesitate to celebrate

You may have imagined the moment of crossing the stage when you graduated post-secondary. It’s okay to feel a bit sad about that, but don’t forget that this is still your convocation ceremony and it’s very worthy of celebrating. YOU are very worthy of celebrating. It’ll look different for everyone, but make sure to make this day special — whether it’s a Zoom call with loved ones, a virtual cheers, a family photo-op or treat yourself to some special take-out from one of your favourite alumni-owned restaurants.

Remember: Convocation is a time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished and feel proud of yourself. Embrace it!
