Life at SAIT 

Dr. Meles Bahru joined SAIT in 2009 and teaches a variety of supply chain and accounting courses, including Operations Management, Transportation, Procurement, Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. He enjoys the unique opportunity to motivate and help students achieve their educational goals and the independence to choose and furnish his own educational philosophy and teaching approach. In his classes, Dr. Meles Bahru emphasizes time management, creativity, the construction of knowledge, and interactive learning.    

In his spare time, Dr. Meles Bahru is a passionate about classical English and German literature and poetry, classical music, world history and world travel.  

Education 

Dr. Meles Bahru has a PhD in Transportation from the Berlin University of Technology, Germany. He also has a master’s in Operational Research (University of Economic Sciences, Germany) and bachelor’s in accounting (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia). He was the recipient of distinguishable German and Austrian fellowships during his time as a Doctoral and master’s student.  Dr. Meles Bahru is a certified provincial instructor and a certified management accountant (CMA). His membership of professional associations include The Institute of Marine Engineers, UK, and the The German Society of Maritime Technology. 

Professional Accomplishments

As a seasoned logistics and manufacturing industry professional of 25 years, Dr. Meles Bahru brings his sound business acumen and innovative teaching techniques to his classrooms. In his industry career, Dr. Meles Bahru worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Auto Trans Berlin, and in research capacities for other post secondaries across Germany, Austria and Canada.  

Research

Dr. Meles Bahru is also an accomplished researcher and is particularly interested in the sustainability and resilience of supply chains, curriculum development, student learning, and the ethical, intellectual and pedagogical challenges of teaching. His research publications are below.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
