Life at SAIT 

Akin joined the School of Business in 2015 and teaches Diploma and Degree courses, including Strategic Management, International Business, Financial Accounting (Intro, Intermediate & Advanced), Taxation, and Microeconomics. Akin brings a dynamic and inclusive approach to teaching. His priority is to train students for the future and the workforce that they will join post-graduation. As a passionate advocate for life-long learning, Akin believes in self-growth, service leadership, and collaboration.  

Over the past few years, he has taken SAIT students on international field trips as part of the ‘Business Beyond Borders’ initiative. Together with another faculty member, Akin has taken students to Belmopan, Belize (2017), Zanzibar, Tanzania (2018) and the Commonwealth of Dominica (2019).  Akin also serves on the Health and Safety Committee in the School of Business, SAIT.   

Outside work, Akin has an unwavering passion for reading. 

Education 

Akin has an MBA (Management specialization) from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria, and a bachelor's in technology in process engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria. He is currently undertaking a DBA (Management specialization, expected completion 2025) from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland. Akin is a Certified Professional Accountant and Certified Training and Development Professional.    

Professional Accomplishments 

Akin has worked in the Canadian and Nigerian finance, non-profit, and oil and gas sectors, including H&R Block, Cenovus Energy, Apache Canada, Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, and Fin Consult.  

Research 

Akin is a dedicated research enthusiast. His interests include cooperative and collaborative Learning, and international applied and students learning experiences. Akin has presented at several national and international conferences.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
