Overview
Build foundational skills in materials inspection, engineering analysis, and advanced welding technologies. This two-year program integrates emerging technologies equipping you with future-focused skills and knowledge to lead in high-impact roles.
You’ll design, test and manage the processes that join materials to create safe and durable structures. You’ll also learn to oversee production, ensure quality and safety, supervise skilled trades teams and prepare technical reports, drawings and documentation.
If you’re interested in pursuing career options as a welding engineering technologist, materials engineering technologist, robotics or automation technician, manufacturing technologist, asset integrity professional, chief inspector and more, this program will help you gain the experience needed for success after graduation.
You’ll learn in state-of-the-art facilities, with structured classes closely aligned with industry expectations. The workload for this program is consistent with a full-time diploma, and you can expect a blend of classroom theory and hands-on learning in computer, welding robotics and materials testing labs.
You’ll develop specialized skills by choosing one of two streams within the program.
Advanced Manufacturing and Robotic Welding
Build the skills needed to support and lead advanced manufacturing and automated fabrication environments through the integration of robotics, lean systems, specialized welding processes and digital manufacturing tools. You’ll also learn to operate, program and troubleshoot robotic systems safely and effectively.
Advanced Inspection and Asset Integrity
Specialize in inspection, corrosion assessment, risk-based integrity management and inspection program governance. Gain experience using artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, robotics and drones. Asset integrity plays a critical role across diverse sectors, including oil and gas, nuclear energy, wind power and advanced manufacturing.
Those who work in this field tend to enjoy doing precise work with tools, finding creative solutions and can work individually or with a team. You need:
- mechanical inclination
- strong communication skills
- to enjoy hands-on work
- to be a self-starter

Oki, Âba wathtech, Danit'ada, Tawnshi, Hello.
SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
