October is Campus Sustainability Month #HereAtSAIT
SAIT’s Office of Sustainability is hosting Campus Sustainability Month in October — attend fun events, join a new community and learn about sustainability initiatives on campus throughout the month.
“This annual campaign is an opportunity to celebrate all the amazing sustainability work taking place across our campus,” says Kristine O'Rielly, Sustainability Program Lead, Office of Sustainability. “Every day, members of the SAIT community are advancing SAIT’s sustainable development goals — from sustainability research to our waste diversion programs.”
Earlier this year SAIT published its first Sustainable Development Roadmap. The five-year roadmap outlines 18 goals across six focus areas — from operational efficiency and community engagement to climate action and academic leadership. The roadmap was modelled using the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Campus Sustainability Month is an international celebration of sustainability in higher education — get involved! Note: Some events require pre-registration. Sign up early to secure your spot.
Coca-Cola Caught Green-Handed Challenge
📅 When: All month, 11 am to 1 pm Where: Campus wide
All month SAIT’s student Eco-Ambassadors will be watching our campus waste bins and rewarding good sorting/recycling behavior. Ambassadors will hand out five Coca-Cola prizes per week. Will you be caught green-handed? No registration necessary. Level up your sorting game with these tips
Sustainability Learning Series: Light Up the World
📅 When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, noon – 1 pm Where: John Ware building, E210D
Join the Office of Sustainability for a presentation from Shashi Persaud, instructor, Electrical Engineering Technology. Learn about the work SAIT faculty and students have been doing with Light Up the World, a not-for-profit organization specializing in giving off-grid communities access to electricity and satellite internet. Students and employees welcome.
Office of Sustainability @ The Saitsa Peer Support Centre

Drop by the Saitsa Peer Support Centre, grab a snack and learn more about the Office of Sustainability and sustainability initiatives on campus. Remember to enter the draw for a chance to win prizes! No registration necessary.
Bees and Biomes Tour
📅 When: Wednesday, Oct. 21, noon to 1 pm Where: John Ware building, meet beside Destinations
Visit SAIT’s rooftop bee hives at the John Ware building with Chef Kate Symes, instructor, School of Hospitality and Tourism and tour SAIT’s biome garden. The tour will be split into two 30-minute portions. Note: The tour requires taking several flights of stairs. Tour locations are not accessible by elevator. Registration is limited to 20 participants.
Sustainability Symposium

Join the Office of Sustainability at our annual symposium to learn more about the great sustainability work taking place across campus, meet SAIT sustainability champions and learn from sustainability-focused organizations from across Calgary. Students and employees welcome. No registration is necessary.
Green Careers Speed Mentoring
📅 When: Wednesday, Oct. 28, 11:45 am to 1:30 pm Where: Macdonald Hall, Heritage Hall
If you’re interested in a career in sustainability but you’re not sure what career options are available or where to start, register to attend this special event during SAIT’s Sustainability Symposium. Meet sustainability experts from a variety of backgrounds and industries and learn how they got where they are today. Registration is limited to 50 students.
Join the SAIT student Eco-Ambassadors

Eco-Ambassadors help plan, execute and promote sustainability initiatives and events on campus. Co-curricular certification is provided to students who volunteer 20-hours in an academic year and the Office of Sustainability provides a personalized reference letter.
Take a course: ENVS 128 – Sustainability at Home and at Work

Learn how to take small, simple actions towards sustainability with this free, interactive online course. The course is open to SAIT students and employees and can be completed in a few hours.

Switching to a sustainable transportation option even one day a week can make a huge impact.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
