Life at SAIT
Dr. Dave Warner first joined SAIT in 2010 as an Instructor in the Business Administration Diploma Program. Since 2018, he has been an Academic Chair for the Administrative Information Management diploma, Library Information Technology diploma, and Office Professional certificate, and previously also led the Legal Assistant Diploma program.
During his time as Faculty at SAIT, Dave led a three-week international trip with business students to Singapore in 2014, coordinated industry site visits to numerous Calgary-based businesses and organizations, and was awarded SAIT Instructor Excellence Awards between 2014 and 2018.
As Academic Chair, Dave provides academic leadership across programs, supports faculty, and ensures students are career and industry ready. He aims to create programs that are both innovative and applied, equipping students with technical and career ready confidence and acumen for today’s workforce. He is energized by mentoring faculty, building collaborative teams, and connecting students to authentic industry experiences.
He currently led the AI Community of Practice for faculty and academic staff in the SAIT School of Business and is involved with several strategic AI committees at the institutional level. He is also leading efforts to modernize program curricula, integrate artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, and enhance experiential learning opportunities for students, while fostering faculty development through mentorship, coaching, workshops, and collaborative projects that elevate program quality and student learning outcomes.
Education and background
Dave holds a Doctorate in Education (focused on leadership of the post-secondary context), as well as a Master’s of Education, a Bachelor’s of Education, and a Bachelor’s of Arts. His professional background includes teaching, program leadership, and curriculum development, and he has earned recognition for instructional excellence and faculty mentorship.
Beyond SAIT, Dave enjoys the outdoors, adventure travel, reading, and volunteering with Ronald McDonald House, Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids, Rotary, and the YM-YWCA of Calgary. In 2024-2026, he was involved in Board leadership with Safe Sport Alberta and Swim Alberts and was a Board director with Cranston Residents Association for a decade beginning in 2014.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
