Overview

Advance your industrial automation expertise with Programmable Logic Controllers II, part of the PLC – HMI Certificate of Achievement. Building on PLC I, this course equips you with the expertise to design, optimize, and troubleshoot advanced automation systems and create high-performance automation solutions that drive industries like manufacturing, utilities, and oil and gas.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with Studio 5000 while learning the four core IEC programming languages:

  • Ladder Diagram (LD)
  • Sequential Function Chart (SFC)
  • Function Block Diagram (FBD) and,
  • Structured Text (ST).

You’ll also develop the ability to manipulate data using math functions, logical instructions, and comparison operators. Finally, you’ll explore ways to improve program flow with conditional and unconditional branches and streamline operations using sequencer instructions.

By developing proficiency in IEC languages and Studio 5000, you'll gain the skills to build intelligent, high-performance automation and control systems.

This course is ideal if you:

  • want to confidently solve complex automation challenges
  • seek hands-on experience with Studio 5000 and IEC programming
  • want to design, troubleshoot, and optimize automation systems for practical use
  • are looking to build your skills in key automation techniques to advance your career.

To be eligible to take this course, you must complete CMPC 001 - Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) I

If you have completed this requirement at a school other than SAIT, please email us your proof of completion at least one week prior to the course start date.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • identify and compare various Studio 5000 languages
  • manipulate data using math functions and mathematical equations and manipulate data using the Move and Logical functions
  • identify and explain the operation of the data comparison instructions
  • manipulate the flow of a program using conditional and unconditional branches to reduce program work and increase program organization
  • identify the various types of sequence operations.
