Overview
This beginner's Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding course teaches you the theory and applications of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process.
You'll learn to perform laboratory exercises on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum while incorporating various positions and joint designs.
This course is designed to teach beginner welding skills and is not a substitute for apprenticeship training. To work as a welder in Alberta, you must either hold a recognized trade certificate or be a registered apprentice in the trade.
We strongly recommend you complete WELD 003 - Welding Oxyacetlylene before registering for this course.
You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
- use safe working practices while performing GTAW welding processes
- perform the following practical weld tests:
- 2F and 3F on 10 gauge 6061 T6 Aluminum
- 2F and 3F on 11 gauge 304 Stainless Steel
- 1F and 2F on 10 gauge Mild Steel

Upon successful completion of this non-credit course, you’ll receive an electronic copy of your official transcript. You’ll also be able to self-print a proof of completion document from your Continuing Education student account.
