Overview

This beginner's Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding course teaches you the theory and applications of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process.

You'll learn to perform laboratory exercises on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum while incorporating various positions and joint designs.

This course is designed to teach beginner welding skills and is not a substitute for apprenticeship training. To work as a welder in Alberta, you must either hold a recognized trade certificate or be a registered apprentice in the trade.

You must be at least 18 years old to register for this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • use safe working practices while performing GTAW welding processes
  • perform the following practical weld tests:
    • 2F and 3F on 10 gauge 6061 T6 Aluminum   
    • 2F and 3F on 11 gauge 304 Stainless Steel
    • 1F and 2F on 10 gauge Mild Steel

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
