Overview
Industrial automation is evolving, and so is the need for highly skilled professionals who can design, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC-driven systems. As the third course in the PLC – HMI Certificate of Achievement, this program builds on your existing knowledge, equipping you with advanced process control techniques and real-world troubleshooting skills that are in demand across industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, and process automation.
With a focus on improving process performance, you'll gain experience working with Analog Input and Output modules, feedback loops, and closed-loop control systems. You’ll also learn to configure DeviceNet, ControlNet, and Ethernet networks, ensuring seamless communication across industrial devices.
With advanced topics like PID controllers, process dynamics, and safety instrumentation, you’ll develop the expertise to integrate PLCs into larger control systems and enhance automation efficiency, preparing you to take on more complex automation challenges.
This course is ideal if you:
- work in or plan to enter industries like manufacturing, oil and gas, utilities, or process automation
- need hands-on experience with Analog I/O modules, feedback loops, PID controllers, and industrial communication networks
- are responsible for improving automation efficiency by designing, troubleshooting, or optimizing PLC-driven systems.
To be eligible to take this course, you must complete CMPC 002 - Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) II.
If you have completed this requirement at a school other than SAIT, please email us your proof of completion at least one week prior to the course start date.
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- explain how devices and signals can be utilized to perform process loop control
- identify different types of analog input modules, describe how they work, and create a ladder logic program to control an analog input
- construct a Ladder logic routine using analog input and output signals
- identify and construct open and closed-loop control systems
- explain how a PID controller functions and how to apply the controller to different applications for Control
- construct and configure a DeviceNet, ControlNet and Ethernet networks.
