Overview
Get ready to work in the rapidly changing and demanding audio production and engineering field.
Intro to Live Sound Engineering will equip you with the basic technical and communication skills necessary to become a professional live sound engineer.
In this SAIT Micro-credential course, you'll gain hands-on experience with live sound equipment while learning signal and system theory fundamentals during class and lab time. Through coursework, assessments, and a group project, you'll develop the skills needed to work on technical sound crews and production teams.
This course is a required course for the Digital Audio Certificate of Achievement and the Event Technician Certificate of Achievement.
If you are taking the Digital Audio Certificate of Achievement, you must complete AUDI 011 Digital Sound before you can register for this course.
If you are taking the Event Technician Certificate of Achievement, you must complete AUDI 01 Introduction to Event Production and Content Creation before you can register for this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- discuss the environment and different roles in the development of a live sound engineer
- explain how to select the proper microphone for a specific application
- describe various types of audio filters and equalization
- demonstrate the operation of a mixing console
- identify various types of loudspeaker systems typically used in the live event
- discuss how to properly match amplifiers and loudspeakers
- assess various types of dynamics and effects of signal processors
- demonstrate the correct operation of a sound system.

Additional Supplies
You'll need to bring the following items to the first day of class:
- USB stick (minimum 32 GB capacity)
- a pair of closed-back, plug-in headphones (1/8-inch/3.5mm jack).
