Gain hands-on skills through simulated learning opportunities in our upgraded theatre lab. You will have the opportunity to learn from our industry professionals with live event production and audio engineering expertise.
By taking this certificate program, you'll learn how to:
- effectively communicate and collaborate on a live event crew
- set up, program and operate different types of lights and lighting systems for different types of live events
- capture professional-quality footage using both high-end cameras and smartphones
- assess the event location and environment to produce the perfect listening experience for your audience.
To gain optimal learning and job-ready experience, be punctual and attend and participate in all your classes.
This certificate program requires some physical strength as you are expected to lift equipment up to 12 kilograms.
You must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time you start the first course for this certificate program.
Program outline
To successfully complete this certificate program, you are required to complete a total of seven mandatory courses. You must complete AUDI-017 prior to taking the other courses listed below. All supporting course materials and resources are accessible online in the Brightspace (D2L) learning platform.

How to apply for this certificate
Once you have registered for any course offered in this certificate, you will be automatically eligible to complete the certificate. You will have up to three years to complete this program. You may track your progression by signing in to your Continuing Education student account.
Certifications and professional designations
Upon successful completion of all the required courses in this certificate program, you’ll receive an electronically issued SAIT Certificate of Achievement and transcript.
You’ll be able to self-print a proof of completion document from your Continuing Education student account. Please note parchments are not issued for individual courses.
Courses in this program may be eligible for a SAIT issued micro-credential (SAITMicro).
Costs
This program consists of seven courses with varying fees. Fees include access to all course-related materials and resources found in Brightspace (D2L).

For this certificate program, you'll have access to our simulated theatre and sound stage lab, DMX lighting board and mixing console.
In addition, you'll need to purchase or bring your own:
- 32GB USB stick for assignments
- C-wrench
- Cellphone or video camera capable of shooting HD video 1920x1080 @ 29.97 (30) fps with audio
- CSA-approved hard hat
- CSA-approved safety shoes
- Heat-resistant work gloves
If you choose to bring your own laptop to class, you'll need the following software loaded on it:
- Audacity digital audio editor and recording application software
- Blackmagic Design Davinci Resolve video editing application
- Eos Family lighting console
- Lightworks cross-platform video editing software

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.
We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
