Overview

Love music and are fascinated by the technical aspects of sound? Are you interested in building or enhancing your audio and sound engineering knowledge and skills for a new or existing career? In this program you'll gain comprehensive training in sound theory and work with digital audio hardware and software to learn the necessary competencies to succeed in a variety of in-demand audio production and engineering occupations.

Taught by experienced industry professionals, this immersive in-person, lab-based program will give you the hands-on skills to:

  • properly set up a recording session, including microphones, equipment and recording software
  • record, edit, mix and master different projects using a variety of digital signal processing techniques
  • use both analog and digital mixing consoles in a live sound environment
  • explore sound design and synthesis for the creation of soundtracks for games and videos.

Prepare to be punctual, attend and participate in all classes on campus for an optimal learning and job-ready experience. Please note, some of the courses in this certificate will involve the lifting of speaker equipment (maximum 12 kilograms).

This certificate is a great complement to our Event Technician certificate program, preparing you for work as a technician in live-event settings or to enhance your technical skills as a content creator.

You must be at least 18 years of age to take this certificate program.

Program outline

To earn this certificate, you must complete the six mandatory courses below.  Start with AUDI 011 – Digital Sound first, followed by the remaining courses in the order listed. The AUDI 020 - Integrated Audio Production Capstone is a standalone course available in addition to this certificate for graduates who would like to continue strengthening their practical skills and building up their portfolio.

How to apply for this certificate

Once you have registered for any course offered in this certificate, you will be automatically eligible to complete the certificate. You will have up to three years to complete this program. You may track your progression by signing in to your Continuing Education student account.

Certifications and professional designations

Upon successful completion of all the required courses in this certificate program, you’ll receive an electronically issued SAIT Certificate of Achievement and transcript.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
