Overview
Evaluating homes for deep energy retrofits requires technical expertise and insight into homeowner priorities. Assessing Homes for Deep Energy Retrofits equips professionals to determine project feasibility and prepare preliminary retrofit plans.
This intermediate-level micro-credential course covers assessment of diverse Canadian housing archetypes, interpretation of EnerGuide evaluations, feasibility of renewable energy systems, and site-specific factors such as building conditions, hazards, and efficiency opportunities. Deconstruction and waste diversion principles are incorporated to maximize environmental benefits.
You’ll engage in 24 hours of learning over three weeks, combining instructor-led virtual sessions with online self-study. Discussions, assignments, and applied exercises help you translate assessment data into preliminary retrofit plans and budgets.
You’ll also be ready for the next advanced-level course in the Deep Energy Retrofit certificate program, SNRG 007 – Deep Energy Retrofit Planning.
This course is ideal if you:
- work in residential construction, renovation, or design and want to strengthen skills in evaluating retrofit potential
- are preparing to lead or contribute to deep energy retrofit projects
- need practical tools to assess homes, estimate feasibility, and develop preliminary plans
- want to integrate environmental, technical, and homeowner considerations into project planning.
You must complete SNRG 005- Residential Deep Energy Retrofit Fundamentals before registering for this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- analyze homeowner goals, motivations, and constraints, aligning them with deep energy retrofit (DER) objectives and strategies
- evaluate homes for DER potential feasibility
- prepare a preliminary DER plan and budget.
