Overview
Executing a deep energy retrofit requires every stage of site work to support the performance goals established in the project plan. Effective coordination, careful detailing, and quality control help protect building-system continuity and prepare upgraded systems for commissioning and handover.
This micro-credential course focuses on project coordination, homeowner communication, material and permit scheduling, and site safety. You’ll apply building science principles while practising insulation, window, penetration, transition, and air-sealing details, and examine indicators of quality workmanship across mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Over one intensive week, you’ll complete 40 hours of in-person classroom and lab learning. Using building assembly mock-ups, you’ll practise installation detailing, identify air leakage, and connect technical decisions to sequencing, testing, and coordination across trades.
By completion, you’ll be prepared to coordinate retrofit activities and apply quality-control practices during project delivery. You’ll also support system commissioning, post-retrofit evaluation, homeowner education, and project handover.
This course is ideal if you:
- work in residential construction or renovation and want hands-on retrofit experience
- are preparing to coordinate deep energy retrofit work on site
- need practical skills in quality control, air sealing, and installation detailing
- want to strengthen your commissioning and handover practices.
There are no prerequisites. To support your learning, we strongly recommend completing SNRG 007 Deep Energy Retrofit Planning first.
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- apply proper management strategies to successfully execute a Deep Energy Retrofit (DER)
- apply proper building science principles during installation/Quality Control
- complete appropriate commissioning and hand-over practices for a DER project.
