Overview
The Second Class Power Engineering course will provide you with the supplemental education you may need to be successful in writing your Government A1 exam.
Topics covered will include:
- ASME code calculations - cylindrical components
- ASME code calculations - stayed surfaces, safety valves and furnaces
- boiler and pressure vessel legislation
- plant design and installation
- management and supervision
- plant maintenance
- safety
- linear motion
- angular motion
- friction
- static and dynamic forces
- fluid dynamics.
To be eligible to register for this course, you must:
- be a holder of a valid Provincial Power Engineering Third Class Certificate.
- complete all third-class power engineering courses - proof of completion is required.
To be successful in this program, it is recommended you have a minimum of Grade 12 Math, Physics and English. If you have not completed these courses, consider taking an Academic Upgrading course.
As PWEN 116 cannot be used as a credit towards work experience or as a credit towards a SAIT certificate, you must complete all six sections to receive work experience credit and a certificate for your learning:
- A1, A2, A3
- B1, B2, B3
If you are seeking credit in place of work experience, please contact your provincial boiler's branch to ensure our courses are accepted. You will have four months to complete this course, with a final exam at the end.

Upon successful completion of this non-credit course, you’ll receive an electronic copy of your official transcript. You’ll also be able to self-print a proof of completion document from your Continuing Education student account.
