Overview

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry relies on advanced refrigeration processes for optimal efficiency and safety across various types of processing facilities, including shallow-cut gas processing plants. This course will provide you wih a comprehensive introduction to the core principles of cryogenic refrigeration systems and LNG liquefaction processes, both essential for LNG production and ethane extraction.

In this course, you’ll explore key refrigeration concepts, including heat exchangers, cascade refrigeration systems, and turboexpander plant operations. You’ll also gain insight into essential LNG liquefaction methods. With instructor support and guidance, this structured online course features self-assessments, quizzes, and a final exam to reinforce a solid theoretical and technical foundation.

This course is ideal if you:

  • are an aspiring technician/operator preparing for a career in LNG production, gas processing, or cryogenic refrigeration
  • want to develop a strong understanding of LNG liquefaction processes and refrigeration systems
  • are seeking an industry-recognized credential to strengthen your existing expertise
  • want the foundational knowledge to tackle NGAS 003 Refrigeration Processes II next.

To be successful in this course, we recommend you have:

  • at least 50% in Grade 12 Math, Physics, and Chemistry
  • some exposure to mechanical systems and industrial work environments.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • describe refrigeration principles
  • describe the basic equipment in a compression refrigeration system
  • describe the operation of a compression refrigeration system.
