Overview
Need more practice? This is a refresher course designed to reinforce key theoretical concepts and practical techniques in preparation for the NRCan CGSB Penetrant Testing (PT) Level 2 practical certification exam.
Increase your confidence and reinforce your LPI/PT skills using specialized equipment in a safe, supervised lab environment. The course includes a guided activity book to walk you through the method, with instructors available to provide mentorship and support as needed.
You may use all or part of the three-hour lab time for focused practice.
You must be at least 18 years old to take this course.
It is recommended that you have completed an NRCan-approved course or training in the NDT Penetrant Testing (PT) method before registering for this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- identify and correctly set up standard PT equipment and accessories
- review safe operating practices and care for PT equipment and consumables
- follow and adhere to written instructions for the performance of Level 2 tasks
- perform basic performance checks (light intensities, aluminum comparator block)
- demonstrate inspection techniques in accordance with written instructions and industry practices
- interpret relevant, non-relevant, and false indications in accordance with acceptance/rejection criteria
- complete a written instruction of one inspection specimen in such a way as to allow a trainee to follow and complete the inspection.

Additional supplies
You'll need to bring/wear CSA-approved steel-toed boots during lab time.
SAIT will provide the NDT PT equipment and any additional supplies needed.
