However, deciphering Alberta’s railway audit system can be complicated. That’s where this course comes in.

This one-day hands-on course provides the essential knowledge to navigate Alberta’s railway safety audit process confidently. You’ll hone your abilities in handling dangerous goods, meeting medical and emergency requirements, and ensuring compliance with critical safety regulations. With clear, practical guidance, you’ll develop a thorough understanding of audit categorization, documentation, and submission to reduce risks, avoid costly penalties, and keep rail operations running safely and efficiently.

Whether you’re conducting your first audit or looking to refine your expertise, this course gives you the tools to enhance safety, maintain compliance, and protect your organization from operational setbacks.

This course is ideal if you:

  • work in industrial rail operations and need to ensure compliance with Alberta’s railway safety regulations
  • are responsible for conducting or managing safety audits and want to improve efficiency and accuracy

Please note: This course is located at the Point Trotter satellite campus in SE Calgary.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • identify the different categories of rail audits
  • become familiar with each section of the rail audit & the required forms
  • perform external audits
  • follow audit submission timelines
  • determine which category your audit should fall under
  • follow railway audit requirements
  • understand amendments by the operator
  • follow self-audit report confidentiality
  • describe the requirements for compliance with the Alberta Transportation Railway Audit for safety management systems, training, track, locomotives, rail car movers, general operating instructions, emergency procedures, medical requirements, dangerous goods, crossings, statement of authenticity and corrective actions.
