Overview

Gain valuable hands-on instruction in boiler construction and design, parts and fittings, operations, feedwater treatment, piping and valves, prime movers, pumps and compressors, controls and instrumentation, heating boilers, heating systems and heating boiler controls.

You'll also learn about compression refrigeration systems, psychometrics of air, boiler maintenance, electricity, how to operate a zeolite softener, the Coppus Turbine and generator unit and variable speed pumps.

This lab is for those who have completed the Fourth Class Power Engineering Theory courses but do not have the six months experience necessary to write the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) Fourth Class exam.

You must have a 100% attendance rate to qualify to write the competency exams, as per ABSA requirements.

You must have previously completed PWEN 002 Fourth Class Power Engineering Part A and PWEN 112 Fourth Class Power Engineering Part B to enrol in this course.

You are required to show proof of completion by emailing conedadvising@sait.ca.

You will be required to take an online safety orientation course (SAFE 160) and provide printed proof of completion on your first day of labs.

It's strongly recommended you have a minimum of Grade 11 Math, Physics and English.
