Overview
Creative image-making combines artistic vision with technical skill. Adobe Photoshop brings these elements together through tools used to develop digital artwork, build image composites, and produce visual content for a wide range of applications.
In this course, you'll explore the foundations of digital image creation using Adobe Photoshop software. Through topics such as selections, masking, layers, brushes, compositing, digital painting, and AI-assisted workflows, you'll examine techniques used to edit, enhance, and combine images for a variety of purposes.
This live online micro-credential course combines practical exercises with applied projects that reinforce core Photoshop tools and workflows. You'll work through increasingly complex activities while experimenting with image compositing, digital illustration, and design techniques.
By course completion, you'll be better prepared to contribute to projects that require original digital artwork and visual media. You'll also gain experience using Adobe Photoshop to develop concepts, construct compositions, and prepare assets for print and digital applications.
This course is ideal if you:
- create visual content for marketing, communications, business, or personal projects
- want to learn Adobe Photoshop and explore the fundamentals of digital image creation
- are interested in graphic design, digital illustration, image compositing, or creative media
- want to build your Adobe Creative Cloud skills.
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- create raster graphics in Adobe Photoshop, including AI-generated content, using ethical and industry-standard practices
- use Photoshop Selection and Masking tools (including AI-powered selections) to produce creative and technically skilled raster images
- use the Pen tools and Shape tools to create vector shapes for composition and complex image selections
- create and organize layers in Photoshop to create effects and enhance image concepts
- select and use advanced Photoshop layer tools and AI techniques to create conceptual image designs
- create and modify brushes and painting effects using manual tools to develop digital artwork
- design a complex and compelling raster art project that combines conceptual design, creativity, and AI-assisted techniques.

Technology
To be successful in this course, you’ll need:
- Access to your own computer or laptop that meets system requirements for Adobe Photoshop and standard hardware/software requirements to use D2L.
- Functional webcam and microphone
- Internet access.
Though not required, a second monitor or additional device may be helpful during live online sessions.
Before the start of the first class, please have Adobe Creative Cloud downloaded and installed on your computer. Educational pricing is available, and you can use your SAIT “edu” email address as proof of student status to access the software at a reduced rate.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
