Whether you’re preparing for a medical laboratory career or sharpening your skills, this course gives you the knowledge and confidence you need to perform safe, accurate blood collection while ensuring patient comfort and safety without the pressure of a live clinical setting.
Through flexible instructor-supported online study, you’ll gain essential knowledge in venipuncture, capillary collection, infection control, and quality assurance. You’ll also develop strategies for interacting with diverse patient populations and handling challenging situations with professionalism.
By the end, you’ll confidently distinguish between blood samples, understand phlebotomy equipment, and apply best practices for safety and efficiency.

- need a Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)-approved Phlebotomy theory course to reinforce and update your skills for certification purposes

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- distinguish between various types of blood samples and terms used in phlebotomy
- differentiate between various types of equipment used in a phlebotomy department
- explain the role of infection prevention and control and safety programs as they relate to phlebotomy
- outline strategies used by phlebotomists for dealing with diverse patient populations
- explain the procedures for performing venipunctures
- explain the procedures associated with capillary collection
