Overview
This course explores how to apply and properly detail control layers in wall assemblies.
You'll review common products used in detailing high-performance residential construction, and you'll learn through demonstration and online interactive activities how to maintain optimum air and water control in the detailing of typical envelope penetrations.
You'll also receive a demonstration of how to complete a blower door test to verify building air tightness and locate and correct sources of air leakage.
We strongly recommend you complete CNST 017 High-Performance Design Integration before registering for this course.
Upon completion of this course, you'll be able to:
- describe the location and function of air, water, vapour and thermal control layers in wall assemblies
- explain how to locate and correct sources of air leakage through the use of a blower door
- describe the properties and uses of typical products used in residential construction detailing
- explain strategies for completing air and watertight envelope systems.

You will complete 20 hours of online, independent study as well as four scheduled, one-hour online sessions with the instructor and other students to allow for questions and answers. These online sessions are mandatory and will be delivered using Zoom and Brightspace/D2L.
Registration for this course closes seven days prior to the start date.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to self-print a proof of completion document from your Continuing Education student account.
