Overview

Data storytelling and visualization are crucial to communicating complex information and insights that inform data-driven decision-making.

In this SAIT Micro-credential course, you'll learn how to use storytelling techniques to craft compelling narratives that engage audiences and effectively communicate key insights.

You'll participate in hands-on exercises and projects using the visual analytics platform Tableau, allowing you to apply your knowledge and create your own data visualizations and stories. By the end of the course, you'll be able to apply data storytelling best practices to create a data-driven narrative with visually appealing and informative data visualizations.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • identify intended audiences, their varied needs and how to best communicate with them
  • plan a data story
  • reflect on biases that may impact fair and accurate and accurate data storytelling
  • create a data story using effective visuals and data as evidence using an industry-standard visual analytics platform
  • present a data story.

SAIT is located on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of Treaty 7 which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Îyârhe Nakoda of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney.

We are situated in an area the Blackfoot tribes traditionally called Moh’kinsstis, where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. We now call it the city of Calgary, which is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta.
