Important

SAIT’s Revit Essentials Certificate curriculum is updated annually to align with the Revit version released in the same calendar year. Because new software is typically released in the spring, program content reflects that version beginning each September. When purchasing textbooks from the SAIT Bookstore, select the edition that matches the Revit version for your course section.

Overview

Bring your building design ideas to life with digital modelling tools that support today’s architecture, engineering, and construction workflows. The Revit Essentials Certificate includes three courses that take you from foundational modelling concepts to producing coordinated building models and documentation using Autodesk® Revit® software.

You’ll learn how building information is created and organized within building information modeling (BIM) workflows, then apply those concepts as you develop architectural models, refine design elements, and generate drawings and views. As you progress, you’ll work with custom content, structural and conceptual modelling, phasing, linked files, schedules, legends, and area plans. Together, these skills help you understand how project information evolves from early design through detailed documentation.

You’ll complete the program fully online and at your own pace, following a recommended weekly structure. Although self-paced, you’ll be supported by an industry-experienced instructor who is available to answer questions, provide feedback, and assess your work. Each course includes guided exercises, applied assignments, and project-based work that reflects standard BIM workflows. You’ll also complete a portfolio-ready project in each course to demonstrate your progression.

By the end of the program, you’ll be able to create coordinated Revit models, develop clear and organized documentation, manage project information, and support collaborative workflows across design and construction teams.

This program is ideal if you:

  • want to build practical BIM skills for roles in architecture, engineering, or construction
  • need Revit proficiency to support modelling, documentation, or coordination tasks
  • are transitioning into BIM-focused responsibilities or roles
  • want portfolio-quality work that demonstrates job-ready digital skills.

Autodesk and Revit are registered trademarks or trademarks of Autodesk, Inc., in the USA and/or other countries.

There are no prerequisites or eligibility requirements for this program. We strongly recommend that you have at least 50% in Math 30-1 or an equivalent course completed through Academic Upgrading. Any prior education or work experience will be an asset, and a basic understanding of building construction and documentation can help you feel more prepared.

Upon successful completion of this certificate, you'll be able to:

  • create coordinated 2D and 3D building models using Revit tools and workflows
  • produce drawings, views, and visualizations that support design communication
  • build and modify custom families and materials to meet project needs
  • manage design options, phasing, and linked files across a project timeline
  • use collaboration features, worksets, and shared models to support team-based BIM workflows
  • evaluate design choices using Revit tools to illustrate function, intent, and user experience.
