Overview

Industrial processes demand precision, efficiency, and control, and as systems become more advanced, so must your skills. This advanced course, and the final in the Industrial Instrumentation Certificate of Achievement, provides the high-level technical training you need to work with complex measurement, control, and safety systems in industrial environments like manufacturing, oil and gas, energy, and process automation.

Designed to equip you with the expertise to analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize industrial instrumentation, you’ll explore vibration measurement, power monitoring, signal processing, and control valve operation. You'll also explore variable speed motor controls, process safety systems, PID tuning, and advanced process control strategies.

Whether you want to advance your career or complete SAIT’s Industrial Instrumentation Certificate of Achievement, you’ll develop the problem-solving skills required to work with high-precision industrial systems and ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in critical operations.

This course is ideal if you:

  • want to gain advanced expertise in industrial measurement, automation, and process control
  • need technical experience with PID tuning, vibration monitoring, and safety instrumentation
  • are responsible for diagnosing and improving industrial measurement and control systems.

To be eligible to take this course, you must complete INST 156 - Industrial Instrumentation II prior to registering for this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, you'll be able to:

  • discuss the types of vibration measurement and monitoring hardware
  • understand electric power measurement, control, standards and protection methods
  • understand different forms of signal characterization
  • understand different types of control valves, functions and motor controls
  • describe closed-loop control
  • describe process dynamics and PID controller tuning
  • describe various process control strategies
