Overview
In this course, you'll learn the basics of sound transmission in an acoustic environment. You'll gain an understanding of how acoustic behaviour affects our perception of sound and the important role of physical factors, such as studio design. You'll also learn about the proper placement of loudspeakers, how audio signals are manipulated, recorded, and distributed and how digital audio is created and transmitted. Lastly, in this course you'll examine unique audio workflows such as Ethernet audio and the appropriate technology support for each flow.
Upon successful completion of this course, you'll have an understanding of:
- acoustical sound transmission
- human perception of sound (psychoacoustics)
- acoustical modal behaviour and how it affects the sound of a room
- studio design for producing good acoustic behaviour
- reverberation
- microphones, mixers and loudspeakers
- metering and monitoring audio signals
- audio distribution and patching used in audio installations
- digital audio transmission and distribution
- the AES digital audio interface standard
- multi-channel surround sound systems
- Ethernet-based audio distribution in a studio or production facility.
