SAIT Youth Programs' mission is to deliver unique, engaging, educational and skill-building experiences to youth in Grades 4 - 12 in a safe and fun environment. Positive, energetic and engaged staff and volunteers are the keys to ensuring this valuable experience happens.

SAIT Summer Camps (SSC) is hiring camp administrators for its 2023 summer day camps. The candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in the area of child and youth education. The candidate will have experience supervising peers/adults. This individual should also have strong verbal and written communication skills evidenced by their customer service experience, which will be utilized frequently in this program.   

As part of the camp administration team, Camp Administrators must have strong interpersonal skills. They must enjoy, and have experience working with, groups of children and youth. This individual will be responsible for answering public inquiries, contacting families by phone and/or email, and being a reliable leader for our staff.   

This fast-paced, deadline-driven position requires an exceptional attitude, organizational skills, time management capabilities, and communication skills. This leadership position is essential to ensuring the camp experience runs smoothly and is enjoyable for campers, camp leaders, parents, and staff.   

Camp Administrators may be assigned to support particular areas of summer camp operations. These areas include but are not limited to; Curriculum Development, Data Assistance, Inclusion Planning, Online Programming, and Supply/Inventory Management. If you have skills in one of these areas, please make note of this in your cover letter.   

Employment dates, hours and wages

  • May 3 - August 16, 2023 (start and end dates are negotiable)
  • 40 hours per week | Monday - Friday (except on statutory holidays)
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $21.56
  • You must be available to work anytime between 7 am and 6 pm
  • This position may entail some overtime (evenings) in preparation for camps. There are a variety of shifts the administration team will cover when the camp season is underway
  • All positions work on SAIT's main campus

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Working with Camp Staff and Volunteers   

  • Provide support and offer mentorship for leaders and volunteers  
  • Educate and train camp leaders on lesson planning, camp management, and conflict resolution  
  • Develop trust and respect with administration and staff to create a positive camp atmosphere  

Supervising Children/Youth   

  • Provide support for campers in one-on-one, and both small and large group settings   
  • Mediate conflict with integrity and consistency  
  • Substitute as needed for ill/absent camp leaders   
  • Help provide a safe, healthy environment for campers to thrive  

Teamwork and leadership

  • Model best practices of teaching with leaders  
  • Support and reinforce the SSC policies and protocols  
  • Promote positive and respectful team atmosphere and work to create a cohesive staff unit  
  • Manage stress effectively, being a source of stability to camp leaders  

Emergency response

  • React and adapt quickly to emergency situations involving youth  
  • Display a strong ability to manage stressful situations calmly and effectively  
  • Consistently enforce SSC policies and procedures with children, youth, staff, families, and the public  

Communications and reporting

  • Communicate with parents/guardians about their child’s experience at camp and address concerns as required 
  • Train staff in best practices of inclusion and follow inclusion processes   
  • Discuss camper accommodations and strategies with parents/guardians  
  • Answer phone, email, and in-person inquiries and communicate with campers, parents/guardians, and staff in a professional and friendly manner  
  • Organize records and input sensitive data according to SAIT policies  
  • Edit, organize, and distribute written camp information to staff, parents, and campers on a regular basis  
  • Assist with various office and administration tasks

  • Valid CPR/First Aid qualification and Police Record Checks with Vulnerable Sector Search for July and August are required

  • Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday to Friday (except on stat holidays). This position may entail some overtime (evenings). SAIT Summer Camps (SSC) is looking is looking for energetic Camp Leaders for the 2023 camp season. If you are passionate about working with children and youth, love to have fun, and have knowledge in any of the following camp themes, we encourage you to apply.

Camp participants range from Grades 4 - 12. 

Employment dates, hours and wages

  • June 26 - Aug. 11, 2023 (end dates may vary) Mandatory training takes place from June 26 - 30, 2023. 
  • Camp leaders work Monday to Friday (except on statutory holidays), 8.5 hours daily. Shifts vary between the hours of 7 am and 5:30 pm. 
  • All positions work on SAIT's main campus. 
  • Starting Hourly Rate: $17.38

Responsibilities

Supervision and Safety of Participants  

  • Ensure the safety, well-being and enjoyment of campers from grades 4-12.  
  • Supervise campers during before-care, after-care, lunch time and field trips.  
  • Assess and manage risk within programs and while supervising.

SAIT Summer Camps is hiring Senior Camp Leaders for the 2023 camp season. This position is intended for returning SAIT Summer Camps staff. The position of Senior Leader will incorporate all of the duties of a Summer Camp Leader, with additional responsibilities. Senior Leaders will be required to have a working knowledge of the operational structure of SAIT Summer Camps and provide insight and guidance to Summer Camp Leaders.     

Camp participants range from Grades 4 - 12.

  • Starting Hourly Rate: $20.19
  • Must attend staff training (Monday, June 26th to Thursday, June 30th), this position will commence in mid-June and end in mid-August.
  • Availability for scheduled shifts between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm (no weekend work is required)

Volunteer Camp Leader Assistants

Volunteer opportunities are for students currently in Grades 10, 11, or 12 that want to develop leadership skills and work in a fun environment.

Requirements

  • High school volunteers must be entering grade 11 or 12 in September or have graduated high school in June. 
  • Volunteers must submit a cover letter and resume stating their interest in becoming a volunteer with SAIT Summer Camps. Applications are due no later than May 26, 2023 by 4 pm.
  • Volunteers must obtain and provide a clean and current (within one year of September 2022) criminal record check with vulnerable sector search. Visit Calgary Police Services for more information. If you successfully obtain a volunteer position at SAIT Summer Camps, we will provide you with an official letter and reimburse the cost of the record check.

Responsibilities

  • Attend the mandatory training day in June (tentatively on Thursday, June 29th).
  • Prepare camp materials.
  • Co-lead some activities.
  • Help campers complete activities.
  • Develop a positive, fun and safe camp environment for children and youth.
  • Monitor camper behaviour to ensure all camper safety and rules/regulations are followed.
  • Develop games, crafts and activities for lunch supervision/during camps.
  • Photocopy and/or obtain supplies for camp leaders.
  • Escort campers around the campus when needed.
  • If required and applicable, provide information for camper incident reports.
  • Other volunteer duties as assigned.

Time commitment

Monday - Friday | 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (1/2 hour for lunch)
No camps on statutory holidays.

You can volunteer for as many weeks as you would like (no partial weeks please). We are flexible in accommodating appointments you may have during the day and your vacation schedule.
