Scoring up success with the Métis Scholars Award

Brittany MacDonald has always been passionate about three things: working in healthcare, hockey and fitness.

At SAIT, MacDonald was able to pursue all three, by combining her pursuit of an education in healthcare with her role as Alternate Captain on the SAIT Trojans Women’s Hockey Team.

“I chose the Medical Radiologic Technology program at SAIT because I was looking for a program that would lead me to an interesting education and a stimulating career.”

MacDonald recently graduated from the MRT program and now works as a Medical Radiologic Technician (MRT) in Calgary.

“I play a vital role in healthcare by utilizing the skills learned in this program to assist with the diagnosis of health issues and provide compassionate and quality care to patients during testing,” says MacDonald.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience as both a student and an athlete at SAIT. Both opportunities were made possible through the generous support of the Métis Scholars Award.” The award supports students of Métis ancestry enrolled in a full-time certificate, diploma, applied degree, or degree program and who would benefit from financial aid.

As a student, MacDonald focused her efforts on learning and academic success. Receiving the award helped alleviate the stress associated with the cost of tuition, books, supplies and daily living.

“I am extremely grateful to be a recipient of this award. It was instrumental in helping me to achieve my goal to become an MRT while continuing my lifelong passion to play elite hockey.”
