SAIT cooks up ranking success

School of Hospitality and Tourism named one of world’s best

We’re so excited and we just can’t hide it! SAIT’s School of Hospitality and Tourism has been recognized yet again by CEOWORLD Magazine and QS World University Rankings. This year, SAIT ranks the 21st best hospitality and hotel management school in the world and 29th best hospitality and leisure management school in the world respectively — up six spots on both lists from last year.

Our school is unique on both lists, as we are one of a handful that offer programs not only in the field of hospitality, but also culinary and tourism. And to celebrate, here are six reasons why SAIT’s School of Hospitality and Tourism is one of the best in the world:

1) Six living classrooms

From North America’s only student-run travel centre to a retail butchery market — students don’t just study in the hospitality industry, they work in it.

2) Culinary diplomacy

Rosalyn Edigar

Chef, faculty member and SAIT alumna Rosalyn Ediger, (PCK’05) is drawing on her extensive global experience to develop a specialized course in culinary diplomacy and food culture. This course will play an integral role in the larger goal of SAIT being the first school in the world to offer a training program for culinary diplomacy, a type of cultural diplomacy.

HOSPO is the ultimate hospitality and tourism conference and the only of its kind in western Canada. The most impressive part? It’s entirely organized by students in the Hospitality Management diploma program. In addition to attracting the best in the business to speak at the conference, they also host a career expo with over 50 industry booths, all while providing world-class hospitality experience for all attendees.

4) Connection to industry

Whether its receiving guidance from top industry professionals in several of our Program Advisory Committees or answering a partner’s — like WestJet’s — call for service training on their new Dreamliner fleet – SAIT consistently raises the bar thanks to our industry partners’ involvement and commitment to student success.

5) World-class faculty

Our culinary and hospitality and tourism faculty are some of the best in a global industry. SAIT’s chef instructors have crafted masterpieces in professional kitchens around the world. Our own Chef Michael Allemeier became the third Canadian to earn the title Master Chef in 2017. Many of our hospitality and tourism faculty members have augmented their extensive professional careers with master’s degrees in tourism and education, and teach in Canada’s top ranked Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management.

6)  We build winners

Our students and alumni are built to compete. From Provincial, National and World Skills to Top Chef Canada, distinguished alumni awards and the prestigious international competition Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, our students and alumni compete among the best in the world — and win.

In response to COVID-19, SAIT’s culinary program has had new reason to reach above and beyond. From donating 10,000 pounds of food to a local charity and creating online service training tools to our chefs doing online demos from their own kitchens, instructors are dedicated to both their students and our community.
