So long 2020, we're ready for you 2021

As we head towards the finish line of a challenging year, SAIT Student Content Team members take stock of some of the good things that happened in 2020 and share what they’re looking forward to most in 2021.
Emily, first-year Journalism
Good things to come out of 2020
Although 2020 has seen its challenges, it hasn’t been a write-off by any means. My husband and I began the year travelling around South East Asia and the South Pacific.
I was able to spend the entire summer in Ontario with my family, which is something I haven’t been able to do since I moved to Alberta four and a half years ago!
With all the spare time I took up a healthier lifestyle. I started doing yoga and going for walks every day. I’ve also had time to video chat with my best friends who live on the other side of the ocean!

And of course, I started at SAIT this year! I have enjoyed my first semester of Journalism immensely. I have had wonderful teachers, and I’ve been lucky enough to contribute to the Student Content Team.
What I’m looking forward to in 2021
- a vaccine!
- booking a holiday to a new country
- finishing my first year at SAIT
- getting outside and hiking in the mountains this summer
Jason, second-year Film and Video Production
Good things to come out of 2020
Spending more time with my brother. We visited the Regal Cat Café in Kensington for the first time.
I’ve liked spending time with him so much that I even got a tattoo of the two of us from when we were kids!
I participated in the Quarantine International Film Festival, and wrote, directed and produced a short film called Two Weeks.
What I'm looking forward to in 2021
- for everything to go back to normal
- learning more about acting
- participating in and supporting Pride at SAIT and Calgary Pride events
- practicing portrait photography
Muskaan, third-year Bachelor of Business Administration
Good things to come out of 2020
Despite it being a challenging year, I graduated with my Business Administration diploma in Supply Chain Management this past spring and continued onto the degree in the fall.
I spent quality time with my family and friends. Here’s a photo of my family and I celebrating Diwali (below).
I frequented YouTube and Pinterest and learned how to bake and cook! Check out that pizza.
What I'm looking forward to in 2021
- starting my practicum at Staples in the supply chain management department
- gaining internal confidence by being more body positive, journaling and meditating
- more hiking with family and friends
- exploring parts of the city that I haven’t really had the chance to yet — like downtown and south Calgary
Sonya, first-year Graphic Communications and Print Technology
Good things to come out of 2020
I graduated from high school!
I became independent and moved into my first place away from my parents to come to SAIT.
I had a chance to really explore Banff and learn a bit more about its history by going on a ghost walk.

What I'm looking forward to in 2021
- being able to walk and interact with others freely
- learning more skills through my program
- exploring Calgary and the cultures within it more. I’m looking forward to trying new dishes and getting outside of my comfort zone with new experiences.
