Message from the Director
"From designing new skeleton sleds for Canada's elite athletes to "de-oiling" industrial wastewater, SAIT Polytechnic is a leader in post-secondary applied research and innovation. SAIT is the only polytechnic in Canada to hold three major Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada grants — each worth more than $2 million.
Government, industry and community partners look to SAIT's Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) team to develop unique solutions for real-world challenges such as improved livestock tracking technologies, homes that generate as much energy as they use and obstacle-climbing wheelchairs.
We work directly with industry partners to develop new technologies and prototypes for commercialization. We also engage students in applied research projects, and partner with other post-secondary institutes and not-for-profit groups. Knowledge gained is shared with the community through new course development — such as solar panel courses for established electricians — and by providing mentorship and funding to entrepreneurial SAIT students and alumni.
The opening of SAIT's Trades and Technology Complex in Fall 2012 marked a new beginning, and new facilities, for ARIS. Housed in the stunning Aldred Centre, ARIS is home to †he Enerplus Centre for Innovation — which includes 20,000 square feet of leading-edge lab space. As well, our Technology Demonstration Hall is where our industry partners and students launch their innovations to the world.
I'm proud of the exceptional applied research underway at SAIT and eager to share our facilities and expertise.
Can we help solve your innovation challenge?"
- Dr. Alex Zahavich, Director, Applied Research and Innovation Services
