Product design is an interdisciplinary activity combining marketing, design, and manufacturing to create new products. These complex projects are rarely designed by individuals, and require product designers to be flexible, adaptable team players who are comfortable with vague, uncertain problems. Tasks may include, digital and physical prototyping, ergonomics research, and industrial design.

Course Aptitudes:

  • Comfort with uncertain or vague concepts
  • Enjoy working with others to resolve problems
  • Visual design and graphics
  • Interest in aesthetic quality and visual detail
  • Drawing and hand sketching
  • Hand skills: working with hand tools machinery
  • Enjoy researching and retaining technical information
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work with multiple projects at one time
  • Well organized and able to prioritize workload
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
