Dual Credit Programs
SAIT has partnered with school boards and industry to offer several dual-credit programs for high school students in grades 11 and 12. Designed to keep students engaged in learning, dual-credit opportunities allow high school students to graduate with their diploma and a post-secondary course or program at the same time. SAIT dual-credit courses are offered at no cost.
While more dual-credit programs are currently in development, SAIT offers:
SAIT Pharmacy Assistant Certificate
Over the course of three semesters, grade 11 and 12 students complete courses towards the SAIT Pharmacy Assistant Certificate. Students attend classes at SAIT up to three times a week in either the morning or afternoon and are taught by SAIT instructors. When course work is complete, students learn on the job at a local pharmacy. This is a 160 hour unpaid practicum. When students successfully complete this program, they will have earned 21 high school CTS credits towards their high school diploma and their SAIT Pharmacy Assistant Certificate. Students may choose to continue their post-secondary studies or go into the world of work as a pharmacy assistant.
SAIT Pre-Employment Carpentry
Over three semesters, high school students in grades 11 and 12 work towards the completion of the SAIT Pre-Employment Carpentry certificate. Students are taught by SAIT journeymen instructors and attend classes at SAIT three mornings or afternoons each week of the program. Students are taught the basics of tool safety, how to read blueprints and the fundamentals of measuring, cutting and joining materials. Students cover all the course material received by a first-year carpenter apprentice plus they learn additional hands-on skills and safety training required on a job site. Upon successful completion of the program, high school students are eligible to write the AIT first-period apprenticeship exams for carpentry. Students can earn up to 15 high school CTS credits through this program.
SAIT Pre-Employment Plumbing
