SAIT keeps swimming in campus centre
Following extensive consultation with stakeholders and the recent decision by SAIT's Students' Association (SAITSA) to invest in a new headquarters, the swimming pool at SAIT will remain a part of campus wellness centre facilities.
Last year, as part of SAIT's ongoing planning process, two options were put forward for consideration for renovating Campus Centre. Students, staff and community users of Campus Centre were consulted and most groups favoured keeping the pool. Following the consultation, a student referendum decision to construct a SAITSA building exclusively for student activities has allowed for a different approach to Campus Centre.
"With SAITSA vacating Campus Centre, our planning team can go back to the drawing board and look at reconfiguring the space - keeping the pool and improving the building to best serve our students and community," says Maureen MacDonald, Associate Vice President of Communications and Marketing at SAIT.
The pool will close for maintenance this summer, but will re-open in September 2016. Pool renovations will include remedial work to the concrete basin and replacement of the pool liner. The project is going to RFP with the closure scheduled for June-August.
Any plans to reconfigure Campus Centre will begin after SAITSA vacates the building, tentatively scheduled for late 2018.
