SAIT Polytechnic credentials pay off

Calgary, AB — SAIT Polytechnic graduates crossing the stage this week can be confident their credential will pay off.

The initial results of the new graduate employment survey show the average salary of a SAIT graduate has jumped 13 per cent since 2010 to more than $54,000. This salary boost is trending higher than the national average, which has seen a 10 per cent increase during the same time frame.*

Brad Donaldson, SAIT's Vice President Academic, says the strong survey results reinforce the value of a SAIT education.

"Our close relationship with industry ensures SAIT is training graduates to meet specific needs for companies in Alberta and Canada," says Donaldson. "The survey shows SAIT students are hired and compensated for the skills they have acquired and developed during their education."

The SAIT survey polled 2014 graduates, with more than 2,700 grads responding. The results show 94 per cent of respondents are employed and 19 out of 20 found jobs within Alberta.

SAIT convocation ceremonies take place Thursday at 1 pm and Friday at 9 am and 1 pm at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.

Honorary degree recipients

Three unique individuals will be inspiring students during the convocation ceremonies at SAIT Polytechnic this week. As SAIT gears up for Centennial celebrations in 2016, 100-year old alumnus Clarence Hollingworth will receive an Honorary Bachelor of Science on Friday morning. Hollingworth is joined by successful businessman Dave Mowat from ATB Financial and Global TV news anchor Linda Olsen as SAIT's honorary degree recipients. Hollingworth began his relationship with SAIT at the age of six when he attended the 1921 Heritage Hall cornerstone ceremony at the Provincial Institute of Technology and Art (PITA), which later became SAIT.

Students graduate with first-ever Bachelor of Science degree

The first graduates of SAIT's Bachelor of Science Construction Project Management program will receive their degrees at the Jubilee on Friday. The first of its kind in Canada, the program was developed in collaboration with industry in response to demand for project managers with both technical construction know-how and management skills. The 20 students graduating from the first cohort are heading into industry to be leaders in construction, project management, facilities management and infrastructure development. The construction industry employs more than one million Canadian men and women.

SAIT's School of Business will hit a significant milestone at the convocation ceremony Thursday afternoon, welcoming its 30,000th alumni. Established in 1966, the School is home to the Business Administration diploma, the largest full-time program at SAIT, training more than 700 students each year.
