SAIT Polytechnic recognized for international training efforts
Calgary, AB — SAIT Polytechnic has received an Alberta Export Award for its efforts in developing and executing Workforce Nationalization training programs. The 2014 awards were handed out today in Edmonton.
The Alberta Export Awards are produced in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) and JuneWarren-Nickle's Energy Group. The winners represent companies from across Alberta industries that have demonstrated considerable success and innovation within the export sector — SAIT was recognized in the Services category.
"SAIT is pleased to be recognized with this award after being a significant exporter of educational services to labour markets around the world," says Dr. Alex Zahavich, Vice President, Corporate Development and Applied Research at SAIT. "We continue to grow and improve energy-based educational training to support the oil and gas industry in different countries."
SAIT's Workforce Nationalization training programs have been offered to oil and gas industries in many different countries, including Angola.
In late January and early February, 44 Chevron trainees arrived in Calgary from Angola for a 30-week training program. After graduation, Chevron employees will begin work on the Mafumeira Sul project located offshore from the African country. The project involves the design, fabrication, and installation of five new platform structures.
